Community. What is community and why should educators be concerned with its organization and development 

Social capital. The notion of social capital is a useful way of entering into debates about civil society and community development, community organization and community participation.

Community development: we explore how the practice of community development has evolved from its largely colonial origins - and some current issues. The contrasts with the community organization model.

Community education: the theory and practice of community education and how it relates to community development, community organization and community participation.

Community education, colonialism and development: We explore in more detail the colonial nature of community education (and community development) and some important themes for practitioners in community organization and community participation. 

Community organization: We explore this north American tradition of community practice. We also identify some historical and current themes in community organization theory and practice.

Community participation: popularized initially by agencies associated with the United Nations, but what actually is it and how does it relate to the theory and practice of community development and community organization?
